We are looking for three new Board members

About Us
A force for good in the East Midlands, NCHA’s mission is to provide homes and support by people who care. Having just celebrated our 50th anniversary, we house more than 20,000 people and manage over 10,000 homes in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland.
We employ over 1,200 people who benefit from training opportunities, apprenticeships and a huge range of colleague benefits.

We’re building new homes all the time and work with 19 local authorities to build affordable homes that meet the needs of people in their area. This includes homes for sale, rent, shared ownership and everything in between. We’ve got an annual turnover of £90 million, and we have invested more than £650 million in properties.

But we don’t just do houses - we also provide a range of care and support services all over our region.

About our Board and the roles

NCHA strives to be an inclusive employer and we particularly welcome applicants from ethnic minority communities, LGBTQ+ communities, women and people with disabilities; as we want to ensure we fully represent our communities.

As we also value diversity in experience and sector, we review the make-up of our Board annually to ensure we’ve got the right representation to enable us to continue to make the right decisions for our customers, colleagues and the organisation as a whole.

And this is where you come in!

We’re looking to recruit three enthusiastic team players with links to the East Midlands who share our CLEAR values, have a passion for housing and social care, and are looking for a Non-Executive Board Member role with a socially conscious Housing Association. We would also welcome applicants where this would be your first Board role.

As a Non-Executive Board Member, you will work as part of a team and be collectively responsible for ensuring the success of NCHA, and its compliance with all legal and regulatory obligations.

You will contribute to setting the our strategic aims and take key strategic decisions about future development; whilst providing entrepreneurial leadership and oversight across the NCHA Group; including playing a part in managing the Chief Executive and executive management team.

Finally, you will accept the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Board Membership including meeting the fit and proper persons test under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

About You

This may be your first Board role and as such you may not be a seasoned Non-Executive Director. But you will be enthusiastic about our aims, have excellent communication skills and a clear understanding of the issues facing the Housing and Care sectors; along with a strong commitment and empathy with our values and objectives.

You will be a values-driven person with an understanding of the needs of diverse communities, including people with disabilities and those who are socially disadvantaged.

You will demonstrate sound independent judgement and have an understanding of how a Board operates and have the ability to work effectively in a team.

You will have the flexibility to attend and participate in a minimum of eight daytime or evening meetings per year, and development activities such as induction, training and performance review sessions, or events, as reasonably required.

In addition, you will be an expert in one of the service areas below to enable us to cover the upcoming gaps on our Board:

  • Care & Support with experience of CQC regulation
  • Experience of being an existing customer of NCHA or another regional social housing provider
  • Or have generalist skills - with a good understanding of how a Board operates

What’s in it for you?

  • Training and support towards your personal development
  • A chance to gain Non-Executive Board skills and experience or expand your existing skills
  • Opportunities to network as you would be representing NCHA externally when required
  • IT equipment provided

If you’ve got a passion for what we do, go on and click apply and be assured that you will be joining a successful Board and contributing to our vision of “More Homes, Great Services, Better Lives”.

All queries about the role and or selection process will be handled by Aretha Donkoh, Team Leader HR Recruitment & Admin ; who can be contacted on aretha.donkoh@ncha.org.uk or 0115 844 3387.

Looking forward to receiving your application!
