Head of IT


Responsible to:         Director

Responsible for:       All staff within IT team




As a member of the saha Senior Management Team the Head of IT is responsible for developing and delivering an appropriate IT strategy for the Association that ensures a fit for purpose infrastructure with sound software products that support the business needs, adding value and continuously improving in line with new technologies. The role also plays a key role in working with Head of Transformation in the development and delivery of saha’s transformation and change activities.    




  • Working collaboratively with the senior management team, model leadership behaviours that will enable development and regeneration across saha.
  • Develop and sustain excellent working relationships with internal stakeholders, working with senior staff to plan and deliver maintenance and major repairs programmes.


Information Technology

  • Lead on the development, implementation and keep up to date an IT strategy that supports the business proactively and manages IT related risks well.
  • Develop and keep up to date IT related policies and procedures that are publicised, understood and adhered to by the Association.
  • To embed a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the Association, devising and leading on delivering a strategy for continuous improvement and on-going service and process reviews.
  • To develop and maintain good working relations with internal and external stakeholders ensuing the effective representation of the department and the Association as appropriate.
  • To embed a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the Association through leading, managing and motivating a team of staff.


Finance, Budget and Resources

  • Responsible for delivery and management of operational budgets within the IT team.
  • Efficiently and effectively resource and provide a support service to the Association that is responsive to its needs.
  • Produce and keep up to date, short, medium and long term budgets for the department


  • Support the Executive Director of Corporate Services in developing, managing and successful delivery the organisation’s IT strategy

Performance Management and reporting

  • Accountable for the delivery of the organisation’s IT strategy and infrastructure, within budget and to achieve agreed efficiency savings targets.
  • Provide regular reports to Executive team, Board and Committees on progress and outcomes relating to IT infrastructure and strategy.


People Management

  • Manage, motivate and develop the IT team, through regular supervision, appraisal and performance management.
  • Giving guidance and support as required and developing staff to reach their full potential.
  • Leading a staff team in transforming lives so they are exemplary of the customer focussed culture desired of all staff.



  • Ensure all work is aligned to the vision, mission and values of saha.
  • Carry out all other duties as may be reasonably assigned from time to time, with the level of this job description.

KEY REQUIREMENTS: The tools to do the role








·         Degree level education or professional qualification

·         Evidence of commitment to continuous personal and professional development

·         Programme and Project Management





·         Comprehensive knowledge of existing and developing technologies, and how they can be applied to business.

·         Good knowledge, experience and understanding of programme and project management and delivery.

·         Good understanding and experience of digital IT security and governance requirements.

·         Knowledge of employment law.

·         Knowledge of the social housing sector

·         Knowledge of supplier contract management




·         Senior management experience of managing an IT service

·         Communicating, negotiating and influencing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and partners

·         Providing expert advice and reports to Board, committees and senior colleagues

·         Demonstrable experience of leading an IT department

·         Track record of identification and successful implementation of new technologies and systems

·         Experience of successfully managing a large departmental budget

·         Experience of working with a mix of static and cloud based service providers, as well as in house and outsourced managed services

·         Experience of managing  and developing complex strategies, projects and teams
